From Tibetan Buddhism point of view it is really a holy mountain on which Milarepa (Tibetan yogi who was enlightened on his one life time) did his meditation; and from Hindu point of view it is the mountain on which Shiva stayed and that’s why thousands of Indians come over here in summer for their praying to Kailash and Manosaravor lke. Majorities of tourists are attracted to Kailash to enjoy the pure air and kora trip. Therefore, let’s find out what’s the best time to visit Kailash and Mansarovar Lake
Generally, the best time to visit Mount Kailash region are April to June and mid-September to early October, as the winter of Ngari region is much earlier than the other parts of Tibet. At other time of the year, the areas around the Mt. Kailash are covered by heavy snow and ice. It is very dangerous to trek around these places during winter.
If you plan a Mount Kailash tour in June and July, it’s better to book your tour at least 3 months in advance, because the huge flows of Indian pilgrims always book out the entire hotels on their way to Mount Kailash. Festival in Kailash Region
Taking cultural experience into consideration, the 15th day of April in the Tibetan calendar (is also the best time to visit Kailash, because it is the holy month in Tibet and the most important annual religious festival in Tibet, the is celebrated throughout the whole month. And the fifteenth day of the month is the most important day as Sakyamuni was born at that day. During this festival, you can meet many pilgrims coming to worship this sacred mountain by doing the kora or yatra around it.
It is NOT advised trekking around Kailash after Mid October. It is not like trekking in Nepal or Nothern India. The reason behind being Western Tibet gets extremely cold after Mid October. In the End of October the kora is abandoned already. There are barely any pilgrims, so less atmosphere. Although skies are clear, the cold is very horrible. Earlier in the season is a better time to trek. September is probably the best month as it is clearer than in summertime and not too cold. There will still be pilgrims around by that time of the year.
Note that in the pilgrimage season the monasteries are full and you have to be camping. And in that case you could possibly add an extra day if you are a slow trekker. For further information and booking please Inquiry. Or call us directly at +9779851032316 (Viber & Whatsapp).
